Regenerative Farming Practices

Land Management
We support the natural biodiversity on our land by maintaining 1200 acers of never broke native pastures. We have a number of hub and spoke systems that we use for rotational grazing. We have dams for water capture and plan to add some swales to encourage drought resistance. Our cattle manure is spread over our pastures to naturally fertilize the land.

Wild Life
Our Ranch is located along Gillespie Lake in the heart of the prairies and is on a major migratory bird route. We are visited by thousands of Canadian Geese, Snow Geese, Swans and countless varieties of ducks each year. Our pastures are a nesting ground for many of these birds.
We have coyotes, fox, moose, antelope, deer, badgers, skunks, owls, hawks, eagles, and countless other animals that live on our land. We strive to live in harmony with them.

Low Stress Cattle Handeling
We use highly intelligent and trainable border collies to help with cattle movement and handling. Their natural herding abilities prove invaluable in achieving low stress efficient handling of our cattle.
We use our calving barn and indoor cattle handling system to manage cattle interactions safely.
We have a heated shop, sheltered maternity pens, portable wind breaks and wind break fences to help manage the elements for the our cattle.
We calve our cattle in May on green pastures which mirrors the natural birthing season of wildlife on the prairies.
Our bulls are hand picked from our best breeding stock and raised on site.
We use heated electric waterers to provide clean water to our cattle.

Predator Control
Odin is our purebred Great Pyrenees guardian dog. His constant vigilance protects our vulnerable calves, chickens and kids from predators such as coyotes and foxes. His presence keeps the predators out of our yard but allows them to live on our greater property where they play their part in rodent control.
